Check out Unfaithful by Natalie Barelli
After years of selflessly serving others as a perfect wife, mom, and professor, Anna is passed over for a promotion and discovers her husband’s affair on the same day. When Anna’s star pupil, Alex, threatens to publish his research without crediting her as co-author and then kills himself, Anna realizes what she has to do to get her perfect happy life back on track. But once she becomes the lead suspect in a murder investigation, Anna must learn the truth about her perfect life before more people die.
I could not put down Unfaithful. The series of twists had me on my toes, and I had no idea who to trust until the final chapter. I also enjoyed the perspective of a female academic and how Barelli tied in the realistic trials and tribulations of dealing with a predominantly male field.
I would recommend Unfaithful to adult readers who enjoy unreliable narrators, moral ambiguity, and a good mystery. I also recommend Unfaithful (and many other psychological thrillers) to anyone who needs a bit of a confidence boost—your life may be full of problems, but at least you are 100% sure you haven’t killed your husband. Readers may want to be aware that Unfaithful contains depictions of suicidal behaviors, violence, sexual assault, and alcohol abuse.
Special Thanks to Libro.fm for allowing me to listen to a free copy of Unfaithful.

Beginning the Conversation
This Month's Topic: Embodiment - What it means to be in our bodies, love our bodies, and heal them, even when we dislike our body.
Becca Bowers is a mental health professional who is passionate about combining mind, body, and spirit in her work. She successfully works with people to overcome trauma through the use of talk therapy and body work. Embodiment practices can be done in small, gentle ways, or big and assertive ways. She works with each person, whether it be in groups, or individuals, to teach how they can connect back to their bodies and heal what their soul longs to be free of.
Saturday October 23
Book du Mois
The festivities will begin at 11:30 with our monthly Book du Mois meeting in The Whisper Room. We will be discussing The Second Life of Mirielle West by Amanda Skenandore. Set during the 1920s, The Second Life of Mirielle West is inspired by the true story of the Louisiana Leper Home, an institution used to quarantine patients until it closed in 1999. Mirielle West is a mother and socialite in Los Angeles who is diagnosed with leprosy and exiled to rural Louisiana for treatment. Due to the social stigmas surrounding leprosy, patients at the institution are encouraged to take on a new identity, which causes quite a bit of turmoil for Mirielle. Perfect for fans of Ellen Marie Wiseman, Skenandore's novels explore the experiences of marginalized people from America's recent past.
To make this meeting extra-special, Elizabeth Schexnyder, curator of The National Hansen's Disease Museum in Carville, Louisiana, will be joining us via Zoom to give us an insider’s look at life at Carville. RSVP to get email reminders, and support Beausoleil Books by purchasing in store or through our affiliates Bookshop and Libro.fm.
Then Saturday at 7pm, Trivia is back by popular demand!
Literary and pop culture trivia in The Whisper Room. $5 per team to play, maximum of 4 people on a team. We will be voting on best and worst team names. RSVP via Eventbrite to ensure your team’s spot. Come dressed as your favorite literary theme, character, or author and stick around for the anniversary after party!
Sunday October 24
We will round off our anniversary celebration by getting into the holiday spirit with local author Angelle Terrell reading and signing her newest book, How to Decorate a Cypress Tree. Angelle will have fun activities for the kids and it should be a Storytime to remember!
