This week, we are so excited to introduce you all to the amazing duo, August Heat. August Heat is made up of talented artists, Kent August and Cookie Salton, and they will be performing Soul, R&B, Jazz, and soft pop from the 60's, 70's, and 80's at Beausoleil Books and the Whisper Room on August 18. This type of soul music is nostalgic and brings us back to a feeling of simplicity and joy. Come enjoy with us!
Growing up in Bristol, Louisiana, under the influence of his uncle, Kent began playing the guitar at age 9. As a teenager, Kent worked with local R&B and top 40 cover bands. A few years later he began touring and recording with local bands such as Buckwheat, Rockin' Sydney, Terrence Simien, Rosie Ledet, Keith Frank, Geno Delafose, Zydeco Force, and Beau Jocque. He has performed at festivals featuring artists such as James Brown, Kool and the Gang, Morris Day and the Time, The Gap Band, and Irma Thomas. Kent has also recorded a jazz CD of his own, JAZZ AT SUNSET, as well as writing and producing a completely original CD with August Heat's Cookie, entitled CLOSER.
Cookie, August Heat's lead vocalist, began singing in the church choir with her father and mother. Throughout the years her voice matured into a powerful and versatile soprano and has touched the hearts of many people. She has shared her vocals with major gospel groups, such as The Five Blind Boys, The Jackson Southerneers, and The Echoes of Heaven. She has also performed R&B and Jazz in cities such as Boston, New Orleans, Atlanta, San Diego, and Washington DC with talents such as The Justice Band, Pizazz, Sometimes Blue, and Freedom Hearts. Cookie was influenced by Aretha Franklin at an early age, and her voice is sure to soothe your soul.
August Heat will be performing at Beausoleil Books and The Whisper Room on Wednesday August 18 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10, and we recommend purchasing ahead using our Eventbrite page.
